📝 Meta Description: The Short Description

In the previous episode, we talked about your Google title (Meta Title) and how to write it to attract clicks. Today we continue on the same path: How to write the short description (Meta Description)?

The Meta Description is the small text that appears under your title in search results. Tourists read it before deciding whether to click on your site or not.

📝 What is a Meta Description?

It is the short text that appears under your title in Google search results. Tourists read it before deciding whether to click on your site.

  • Not just a description — it's a short sales pitch
  • Determines whether the tourist clicks or not
  • Must answer the tourist's question and create curiosity

📌 The Golden Rule

The Meta Description should be:

  • ✅ An answer to the tourist's problem — What they're looking for
  • ✅ Includes an offer or benefit — Discount, proximity to landmarks, free services, etc.
  • ✅ Not too long — 150-160 characters is ideal
  • ✅ Encourages action (Call to Action) — "Book now", "Explore today"

📊 Example: Weak vs Strong

❌ Weak Meta Description:

  • "Our Istanbul hotel offers luxury rooms and great views."
  • "Welcome to our hotel. We wish you a pleasant stay."

✅ Strong Meta Description:

  • "A quiet family hotel just 5 minutes from historical sites. Book now and get 20% off!"
  • "Luxury hotel with sea view. Free parking and breakfast included. Best price guaranteed!"

What's the difference?

  • Weak descriptions are just words — they don't give the tourist a reason to click
  • Strong descriptions solve the tourist's problem, offer value, and encourage clicking

🏨 Practical Example from Hosanat

On the Hosanat website, we wrote the Meta Description as:

"Experience luxury at Hosanat Hotel, a 5-star hotel in Istanbul with breathtaking Bosphorus views. Book your stay now!"

Why is this description strong?

  • It includes the keyword: "5-star hotel in Istanbul"
  • It highlights the feature: "Breathtaking Bosphorus views"
  • It encourages action: "Book your stay now!"
  • It answers the tourist's question: "Why should I choose this hotel?"

💡 Important Tip

Before you publish your description, ask yourself:

"If I were a tourist reading this text, would I click on the site?"

If the answer is "No", change it immediately!

Also, make sure your description doesn't exceed 150-160 characters so it doesn't get cut off in Google.

📈 Summary

The Meta Description is your site's second impression on Google. It determines whether tourists click on you after reading the title.

Remember: A strong description = more clicks = more bookings.

In the next episode, we will talk about the main heading (H1) and how to write it to serve both tourists and search engines.
